USA: The best country in the world!
--
There’s a thousand reasons why this country is one of the best in the world, if not THE best. Let’s talk about one of them.
…
Earlier today, Varun Palaniappan shared an interview of Sundar Pitchai by iJustine, and here were the takeaways for me (entirely paraphrased, of course!).
1. The next 2 decades have plenty to offer when it comes to opportunities, and exhilarating software work, and they will be even more exciting than the previous two. So, if you are just getting started with Software Development, feel blessed.
2. It’s important to work with people smarter than you. I’ve always believed this all my life, and thrive in being the stupidest person in the room. The world is filled with brilliant people everywhere you go, so learn from them. From all of them. Every single day.
3. It’s highly likely that your career is going to meander — at least, for most of us. But, stay focused, don’t lose sight of your goals, and keep chugging along relentlessly.
4. Do what you love. Look to your heart to tell you what you love doing. Chase your passion. The money is just a bonus.
…
Back to why I think USA is the best place to live.
Since I didn’t exactly read any of this anywhere, I am going to take complete luxury to speculate, and summarize that Sundar Pitchai:
- Moved to the US out of choice (and chose to move here specifically over numerous other options he had)
- Was on an F1 visa, then H1B, then Green Card, then Citizenship, yada, yada, yada.
- Was able to do what he exactly wanted to do all these years.
- Got the opportunity to work with brilliant people.
- Was duly recognized for all his hard work and intellect.
- Contributed to the growth of this nation by doing what he was (really) good at.
- Didn’t find the urge to relocate to any other part of the world.
- Has no regrets about any of the career choices he’s made.
- Believes that he has a lot more to learn, and is not necessarily the smartest person in the room.
- Has more humility than the average person.
I am not sure there’s very many other countries in the world that would seamlessly lend themselves to that (speculated) summary above.
I don’t need more reasons to love this country but it certainly doesn’t hurt that I find more of them all the time.
